“I feel I've done my job well when even my most basic bowl can stand on its own as something to be cherished and admired. There are certain, sometimes indescribable, characteristics that come together and result in a piece that feels "right", and that conveys integrity and completeness. That's what I strive to achieve.
The universality of ceramics intrigues and inspires me. It's a tradition that has been a central part of cultures for tens of thousands of years all over the world. Being a maker of ceramics allows me to connect with people that I see day to day, which I love. It also connects me to the countless people, places and times throughout history where ceramics play or played a meaningful role in daily life, rituals and beautification.
At the end of the day, I'm happy to call myself an artisan. I take great pride in continuing the tradition of craftspeople who work their medium, whichever it may be...and imbue it with richness and attentive care, uncommon dedication and skill. I am very happy to be part of that family.”
